Asphalt Roof Cleaning
Greenway Solutions will never use any form of pressure washing to clean any roof, shingle or tile!
What’s that black stuff on my roof?
It’s a living organism, a cynobacteria called gloeocapsa magma, which is a type of algae. This is commonly referred to as “fungus or mildew growth” here in Wisconsin. The discoloration usually has a brown to black appearance, and may be mistaken for dirt or soot. This algae has tiny root systems that work their way into the pores of your tiles, and wrap around the granules of your shingle roof, weakening fibers and wearing off granules, thus shortening its life. They also feed on the organic material found in your shingles. The longer these microbial growths stay on your roof, the more damage they will do.
How does it get there?
This cynobacteria normally begins a life cycle as airborne spores, that settle then grow on your roof tops.
Why should I have my roof professionally cleaned?
It’s a healthier environment for you and your family and it extends the life of your roof, reduces energy costs, and increases the curb appeal of your home.
Does Greenway Solutions use safe cleaning techniques?
Absolutely! Our roof cleaning system complies with ARMA recommendations and guidelines for safe roof cleaning. All roofs are cleaned by fully trained and certified crews using proper equipment, safety gear, and knowledge.
Can I just pressure wash my roof?
Tile and shingle roofs should never be pressure washed. Pressure washing damages shingles by blasting away the granules, and this crude and invasive method of cleaning doesn’t really kill all of the algae growths. Roofs that have been pressure washed here in Wisconsin typically need to be cleaned again in as little as two years, depending on the amount of rainfall. In addition to ruining your shingles, pressure washing scatters the still-living algae from you roof all over the place.
How much will it cost to clean my roof?
